Fall Colors on the Carriage Roads in Acadia National Park

After a crazy, busy, and unpredictable summer finally came to a close on Nantucket, I decided to get away for a week long camping trip at Acadia National Park along the Maine coastline to unwind and trade photographing coastal sunsets and lighthouses for some beautiful fall foliage. I have visited the park on several occasions over the years, and have longed to explore the mysterious Carriage Roads that had always been inaccessible to me until now. Yes, I could have tried hiking some of the roads with 30-40 pounds of equipment strapped to my back on those trips, but it was a daunting task considering the length and elevation changes, and I was trying to cram as much sightseeing as I could in the two or three days I had on those occasions.

I brought my (converted) Class 1 e-bike along for the trip this time, with the sole purpose of exploring every one of the 45 miles of Carriage Roads in the park. Not only did I do just that, over the course of two days I ended up logging over 80 miles! I was in pure heaven. The temperature was in the mid 70's and the skies were partly cloudy the whole time- just perfect conditions! This was one of those few times that I tried to simply enjoy and exist in nature rather than record everything through my camera, and I ended up taking way less photos than I normally do when on outings like this. That said, I did capture a few images that I think might help transport you to my state of mind for those couple of days. Enjoy!
